Intentionally missing workouts is the equivalent to letting your kids choose what days they want to go to school….
If we let them only do part of the curriculum they will develop a fragmented understanding of education, they’ll excel in some subjects yet fail in others.
CrossFit is no different, with so many facets to it, to gain a full appreciation and understanding its important to endeavor to engage in all the programming, whether it’s what you like or not.
What is Fitness
CrossFit defines fitness as “increased work capacity across broad time and modal domains”
Our goal with all programming is to expose you to a variety of exercises, rep schemes and time domains to increase your overall fitness to the above-mentioned stimulus.
What does it mean if we only do what we "like"? It prevents this. When you only train what you like, or you create an opinion on how you think the workout is you are ultimately missing important adaptations in your training
We can all get good at what we like, what we enjoy doing and yes that is a choice you have but to develop a true appreciation for fitness we need to engage in any and all challenges put forth. Take your physical and mental state to a new level, always willing to learn, to adapt, to better yourself daily.
What if I’m injured or have limitations within the workout?
This is why CrossFit is so great! Scale, scaling doesn’t mean you are failing in any way, it means you are committed to being better and understand your bodies limitations. You want to participate and learn yet you know that a particular exercise is not within your ability level just yet or a particular injury would prevent you from doing that movement. Just ask a coach!
Final Thoughts
We all have things we love to do, what makes us feel great, gives us that quiet confidence walking into a workout but it’s the things that test us, challenge our abilities that will give us the true sense of accomplishment. A feeling that today we made a change for the better.
Strive to participate as much as our circumstances allow us, we all have challenges in our life externally but a commitment to yourself is just as important. A healthier, fitter and happier you will translate into your daily life.
